Cricut Texas Home Decor

Cricut Texas Home Decor

Scrap it, Bag it, Decorate it Wednesday

Hello, friends!

My parents are moving from the Dallas area, which is by me, to Northwestern Arkansas, which is not. My family has always lived in Texas, so it is going to be weird not having my parents nearby. Since crying and begging for them to stay did not work. I thought making them something to make them feel guilty would be a good option. I will keep you posted on whether it works or not.

I have seen around the internet (especially Etsy) lots of trendy home decor that involves states. Most have a heart of some kind as well. For some time, I have wanted to make something with my home state for my own home in this style. While home decor is fun to make, it is not always on the forefront of my mind when I am in craft room. Luckily, I remembered this idea when it came to making something for my parents.

Here are my thoughts about this project. First, I am hoping that my mom and dad hang it somewhere in their new home that makes it visible everyday. That way, when they see the sad little heart over the Dallas portion of the state, they will think of me and regret that they moved. ;-) Second, it was so easy to make. It was made in under a half an hour. It took longer designing it in Design Space than it took to actually put it all together. Last, I may have to make one of these for my house too, because I love how it tuned out!

For this project, I used 50 States, Suburbia, Artbooking, and Art Philosophy cartridges.

I used paper from a couple of different CTMH paper packs and my minc (I will do a video on this in June) to make the gold Texas. The heart is cut with pink patterned paper from Brushed and the aqua mat is cut from Seaside

If you have a Cricut Explore, here is the file: Cricut Texas Home Decor

If you do not have an Explore, here are the sizes:
Texas shape (50 States) - 6"
Texas word art (50 States) - 1"
Square (Artbooking) - 11 1/4"
Heart (Art Philsophy) - 1"
Love Word Art ( Suburbia) - 1"

So sad for you to have your parents move away. BUT your wall art is awesome! I was wondering when I first looked at it what sort of pretty patterned paper you had used to create the state cut out. And then I realized as I read on down that you had used gold metallic. I like the little heart cut out.
A lovely and thoughtful gift for your Mom and Dad and hopefully it won't be long until they at least come and visit with you.
Thank you for sharing this sweet idea. :)

What a wonderful project! I'm sure your parents will love it. I'm sorry to hear they're moving away, though--that must be very difficult for you. Hopefully they'll visit often!

What a PERFECT gift for your parents as I'm sure they have a lifetime of memories from Texas... they will LOVE it and love to have it in a prominent place in their new home. It's a great idea to do that and one I'm thinking of doing for a different state. Thanks!

Bought my first digital individual Cricut image, Pegasus from Hannah Montana. Used white cardstock to test cutting it and I like it. I used a Visa rebate card I got from purchasing some dog food. Glad I looked at the card that I had only used some of it because it has an expiration of May 2015. I'm going to do a subscription with a Visa rebate card I got for buying 4 new tires for my car since it has the amt needed for subscription. The image I bought had tax on it so I assume that all images have tax. Does the subscription have tax or is the tax included?

Great job on your project, it's really beautiful. I do think it will work to make your parents feel guilty! I'm sad for you that they are moving so far away. :(
