I loved reading yesterday's comments about your favorite holiday traditions. What is it about the holidays that just make the ordinary so extraordinary? For example, one of my favorite traditions is a yummy breakfast casserole that my mom makes every Christmas morning. She only makes it on Christmas because it would just be breakfast otherwise. However, since she only makes this casserole once a year it is deliciously special! I will have to post that recipe sometime.
Today's giveaway is a Snow Day cartridge.
To win:
1) Leave a comment below telling me of your favorite Holiday dishes.
2) Subscribe or follow the blog.
That's it! Winner to be announced on Sunday, December 18, 2011.
Now it is time to check out Joy's blog because she is also having a week of giveaways! Click here ==> Obsessed with Scrapbooking

My favorite holiday dish??? HMMM that is hard to choose...
1. squash
2. cream cheese corn (yummy)!
3. homemade kuchen!
My son always makes our Christmas breakfast treat ~ he uses wonton papers and fills them with a mixture or sausage, onions, peppers, cheese, etc., then bakes them to crisp up. Yummy! We usually also have sweet rolls made with frozen bread dough, brown sugar, butter, vanilla pudding mix, and orange marmalade made in a bundt pan ~ Super Yummy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win this cartridge ~ I've been looking all over for it, but I can't find it in stores ~ always sold out!!!
About 7 years ago, I began going to the local bakery on Christmas eve and getting their holiday bread for Christmas breakfast. It has become a tradition that we all look forward to.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Holiday dish has to be my Sweet Potatoe Casserole. Every time I make it is gone is scoop. My kids love it and so do my friends. The other would be my homemade cinnamon rolls. This i make Christmas Morning while the presents are being opened.
ReplyDeleteA new favorite is a warm crab dip that disappears!!
ReplyDeleteAlso, we have to have green bean casserole and home made noodles! :)

I'm already a follower of your blog. :-) My favorite holiday dish is a casserole we make using wild rice, broccoli, cauliflower, cheese and bacon. Delicious and special because we only have it on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanks for the chance to win another great cartridge.
ReplyDeleteHomemade cinnamon rolls was always our special dish for Christmas breakfast. My brother's birthday is Christmas Day so this was a double treat. Mom's gone now, but I still make homemade rolls from scratch for my family on Christmas morning. Thanks for stirring these warm memories!
ReplyDeleteKathryn
My favorite dishes are of course padaha(traditional Ukranian Christmas dinner), green bean casserole, and deviled eggs! I'm getting so excited for next week Wednesday to make homemade padaha with my aunt and mom. :D
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dishes are desserts! My mom started making chocolate-covered cherries back when I was in college and they've become a holiday staple. The other favorite are Ritz Cracker Treats (you make cracker & peanut butter "sandwiches" then dip the crackers in chocolate) - they're better than the Girl Scout cookies! We only make them at Christmas, so I look forward to them all year!
ReplyDeleteI love to bake a ham at Christmas and "decorate" it the way my mom did: she covered it with pineapple rings and put a maraschino cherry in the middle of each ring. It looks so festive! And makes me feel my mom is close.
ReplyDeleteGeesh, I can not even think of a favorite, I love everything about Chrismas...Homemade candies and cookies, home made meat pies, bbig festive meal.....love it all, Merry Christmas.

We always had beef-barley soup with fresh bread for Christmas Eve dinner since we then had a huge Christmas Day feast! The smell of this soup cooking takes me right back to my childhood.
ReplyDeleteI have to same we have Hashbrown Casserole for every holiday and sometimes in between. Maybe this year I will make an Ice Cream Cake Roll...we have not had that in years (decades?). Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis year I am making my Mom's tacos for Christmas Eve. Tacos are very ordinary, and yet, now that my Mom is gone, I know they will be special to my Dad. She fried her own shells and made the meat a certain way. Those tacos really are ordinary, but because they're my Mom's recipe, making them our new Christmas Eve tradition will make them extraordinary.
ReplyDeleteEvery year on Christmas Eve my Mom make Tamales. She also makes enough for all of us to take home, yummm!!! Delicious and we all appreciate her hard work every year.

Yummy! Sounds like a wonderful Dish! I make Lasagne as our family dinner every year! Just like you, my mom use to make it for us when we were kids and it was only a special treat! Otherwise it would be just another meal! Sooo instead of turkey or ham I make Lasagne every year for our Christmas dinner! My kids LOVE it and look forward to it every year! :o)
ReplyDeleteTheresa
One of my favorite dishes for Christmas is called beervicken, it is a pastry that is filled with dried fruit. It is an old family receipe and everyone loves it, but it takes a lot of time to make days if you count all the prep work so we usually only make it once a year. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm, it has to be the stuffing! We use my mother in laws recipe to make it every year. She passed years ago but every time I make it I feel her right by my side helping out and smiling because she knows how much I hate to cook:) The holidays are truly a labor of love for me! Oh my! That's a hard one! Christmas at my mom's we do different than Thanksgiving. For Thanksgiving we have Turkey & Ham and all the trimmings but for Christmas we do snacks, appetizers, and mother cooks a ham to make ham sandwiches. We spend the day and it's all left out to nibble on! So, I guess if I had to pick a favorite it would be her teacake cookies! This is the only time she makes them and they are one of my favorites! Thank you for the chance to win this cartridge! I would love to win! Hugs, Leanne

My hubby's grandmother used to make a breakfast casserole for Christmas morning too - she is now 101 years old and does not do it any more - one of us needs to step up to the plate I think :) So my favorite holiday dish (besides my mother's candy) is probably my MIL's potatoes au' gratin - however that is spelled - she makes it with swiss cheese and lots of cream and it is over the top delicious! Another recipe from her MIL - the 101 year old Nana.

Favorite Holiday Dish is the Campbell's Soup Green Bean Casserole with the french fried onions on top. It is actually my husband's most favorite dish and he only gets it at the holidays and only if my mom makes it (poor guy). Whenever we are getting ready to go to mom's he'll always ask: "Is she making my bean casserole?" It is one of the first things he puts on his plate! Thanks for letting me share "his" favorite dish.
ReplyDeleteWe only have sweet potato casserole for the holidays. It is more like a dessert than a side dish - love the roasted pecans on top! Here in western PA, deer hunting is a big tradition and for opening day I always bake a sausage and egg casserole - just that day and no other. My youngest was old enough to hunt this year and couldn't wait to taste it. Food brings so many great memories to mind.
ReplyDeleteCheesy potatoes---my daughter brings them Christmas Eve and also on Christmas Day.

ReplyDeleteMy Dad always made that Chex Mix snack stuff for Christmas. It never was a favorite of mine but I loved watching him in the kitchen making it because everything had to be just right to meet hue satisfaction. I always Ate a lot of it like everyone else though, simply because Dad made it. What I would give for that Chex Mix now.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite holiday dish is brocolli, cheese and rice because my Grandma always made it. But it has to be made in grandma's special pan. It just doesn't taste the same in a pyrex glass dish for some reason!
ReplyDeleteIt's really hard to pick just one holiday dish. My Mother makes several things that I love. She makes the best mac-n-cheese! She also makes a wonderful fruit salad! And so many more LOL! So it's really hard to say which is my very favorite. If I have to name just one, it would have to be the fruit salad. She actually makes 2 different fruit salads. She calls one of them my fruit salad the other she calls my sisters fruit salad. Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteOur favorite thing is making candy with the grandson. That's the only time we make candy.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite holiday dish would have to be any flavor of cake my daughter and son choose to make with their daddy for Jesus' birthday. Instead of cookies for santa, he gets a piece of baby Jesus' birthday cake. My kids are 14 and 19 and it is still a must do for Christmas Eve.
